Analog Coffee, Tiny Paintings, Hospital Hallways & a Glimpse of Scotland

The last couple of months have felt like a bit of a patchwork quilt: road trips, tiny paintings, hospital corridors, café walls, & planning a plein air adventure across the Atlantic. I thought I’d gather it all in one place & share what I’ve been up to & where my work is quietly living at the moment.

road trip to Analog Coffee Co.

Recently, I drove across to Franklin, New Hampshire with fellow artist, Sara Rae of Sara Rae Fine Art. We were on a mission to hang her show at Analog Coffee Co., a small, hip café with glitter disco ball vibes & hints of creepshow airs, & some seriously good coffee & sandwiches.

While Sara’s work went up on the walls, I had the chance to look around & imagine my own paintings there. Daydreaming about what I will hang here this spring as I’ll be filling those same walls.

Sara Rae Fine Art – now showing at Analog Coffee Co. in Franklin, NH

My work at Analog will be on view April 1st – May 31st

If you’re in the area, it’s a lovely excuse to get out of the house, have a coffee & a scone or sandwich, & soak up some art in a relaxed, lived‑in space.

Little movie if you will. I’m building a youtube channel & little by little learning a bit more & I find this fun to do. I’ve always liked the idea of film & I rather be behind the camera. Here on my channel I’m exploring & playing around with film.

 Tiny Paintings: #28TinyDays

February has had its own rhythm thanks to the #28TinyDays challenge put on by Library Arts Center, Newport, NH. I’ve been working on small 2" x 3.5" painting, business card sized windows into the world around me.

There’s something about working small that feels both playful & disciplined. Each piece is a quick glimpse: a field, a treeline, a bit of sky, a memory. All painted inspired by a chosen prompt word each day.  I used mostly watercolor & a little gouache! I felt as though these tiny artworks really helped give me more confidence in using watercolor which is pretty exciting for me.

If you’re curious what a month of tiny paintings looks like I made a compilation of images from the month here below. If you want a closer look click the link & get a closer look at each piece that I painted with the option to purchase if you would like. Friday, February 28th, 11am until 2pm the community gathered to share their artworks & local artist Carol Sullivan came & gave a workshop on how to make displays for our tiny works.

Paintings in Hospital Spaces

At the same time as all this café & tiny painting energy, my work has also been spending time in quieter, more serious spaces.

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center – Lebanon, NH

I currently have a group of paintings on view at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, in the Cancer Center. These pieces are there to offer some calm to the patients, staff, & visitors moving through this intensely personal space.

New London Hospital – New London, NH

Closer to home, my work is also part of the revolving art exhibits at New London Hospital in New London, NH. They regularly feature multiple local artists, & it’s heartening to know that art is woven into a place so focused on care & community.

If you happen to be at either hospital & spot one of my landscapes or farm scenes, I hope it gives you even a small sense of comfort.

Story & Imagination at Tatewell Gallery, New London, NH

In New London, something a little different is on the walls: my illustrations for a children’s book are currently on view at the Tatewell Gallery.

These images lean into story & imagination more than my usual work. If you’re drawn to art that speaks to children & the young at heart, Tatewell is a lovely place to visit.

Local Galleries: Manchester & Wiscasset

A few other places where my paintings are quietly living their lives:

Framers Market Gallery

1301 Elm St

Manchester, NH

They keep a rotating selection of my work. If you’re in Manchester, you can stop in, ask to see what’s currently available, & support a great local framing & gallery space at the same time.

Ingram Antiques & Art – Wiscasset, ME

Up the coast in Maine, Ingram Antiques & Art in Wiscasset has a selection of my paintings alongside many other artists. It’s one of those small coastal stops that feels like a discovery. If you go, do call ahead to confirm their hours & catch Larry or Kirsten when they’re there.

Looking Ahead: Plein Air in Scotland

Soon, I’ll be heading off on a plein air painting trip to Scotland—trading New Hampshire farms & back roads for stone, sea, & the Scottish coasts. I’ll be painting on location, chasing whatever light the day offers, & gathering references & ideas to bring back into the studio leading a group of eight other artists & creatives.

There’s something grounding about standing in a place, brush in hand, making sense of it in real time. I’m excited & humbled to see what Scotland will do to my sense of landscape & color. This is an exciting journey.

If you’re curious about my trip, or interested in future plein air adventures abroad, let me know. It helps me shape what comes next when I know who would like to come along on one of my plein air adventures.

Thanks for reading & for following along on my journeys from Franklin coffee to tiny canvases, hospital corridors, small galleries, and future Scottish hillsides. If you happen to see my work out in the world, I’d truly love to hear about it.

**Next —> a blog sharing more about a potential trip to Iceland with one of my gallery peeps! Exciting news on the horizon!
