Early Spring in the Studio: Pop-Up Exhibition in Boston & Community Paint Nights

As March melts into April here in New England, the landscape is finally starting to reappear. The deep snow of winter has mostly melted away, & we’ve been getting those beautiful almost-50-degree days that make you want to put your hands into the earth & breathe that waking soil. It’s still mostly cold with that lingering New England chill—but those in-between days are showing up. They’re full of promise.

That mix of lingering winter & emerging spring has kept me grounded & focused in the studio. While the woods & fields are shifting to the warmer climate outside, I’ve been busy preparing for a a new exhibit:

A Pop-Up Exhibition at Arlington Street Church, Boston

I’m delighted to be part of a pop-up art exhibition at the historic Arlington Street Church in Boston, Massachusetts this April. The show will run April 15th–20th, right as Boston is buzzing with energy around the marathon & the change of season.

Exhibition Details

- Location: Arlington Street Church, Boston, MA

- Dates: April 15–20

- Hours: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm each day

- Hosted by: JW Reilly Fine Art (Boston)

It’s an energizing time of year in the city—marathon week, people emerging from winter hibernation, & that bright, fresh spring light bouncing off old stone & new leaves. I’m excited to be bringing my landscape painting into that atmosphere, especially works that echo the transformation of fields, farms, & hillsides as they shake off winter.

If you’re in or near Boston, pop by, say hello, & spend some quiet time with a good selection of artists & paintings.

Also, don’t forget I have paintings at Analog Coffee Co., Franklin, NH until the end of May! If you pop in too see these guys tell them I said ‘hi’ & grab yourself a coffee; honestly so good. I thought the cafe would be a great venue to share portraits. I love to use these public meeting spaces to share art. It really adds to the whole vibe that I really love!

Sip & Paint (& No-Sip & Paint!) Events

Alongside exhibition prep, I’ve also been putting together some fun evening paint events—a way to bring people into the creative process in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

I’ve hosted several sip & paint workshops at the local Library Arts Center & I’ve been invited to run these events as part of fundraising efforts for community organizations. These workshops are about play, color, & connection.

An upcoming event I’m looking forward to hosting is at the First Congregational Church of Croydon. If you’re local, enjoy supporting community efforts, & love the idea of an evening filled with painting spring daffodils, reach out to Erin at First Congregational Church of Croydon.

Looking Ahead

As the snow recedes & the ground opens up again, I’m feeling that familiar pull toward en plein air outings. And, I’m definitely getting excited about the upcoming plein air trip to Scotland at the end of April! Whoopie, I get that feeling I have to go buy art supplies, of course I don’t & my mind does still go there!

If you are interested in experiencing en plein air the Library Arts Center holds outings every Wednesday morning June thur Sept; check in with www.libraryartscenter.org. The schedule will be up soon!

In the studio, I’ve been playing with small portraits focusing mostly on our feline friends. I have wanted to improve my skills in this area. So, what better way than to do lots of little cat paintings hoping to close the gap between where I am now & where I would like to be!

Thank you, as always, for following along, for visiting exhibitions when you can, & for supporting not just my work, but the local arts & community events that keep these New England towns vibrant.

Thanks for reading!

Heidi
